Sheriff Couvillon and His Values

(publlished June 14th, 2011)

Editors note: This chapter was published 4 days after I called Sheriff Couvillon at his desk and asked him if he had a warrant for my arrest regarding Donnell Dent's lies from ten months earlier. Couvillon told me that, yes, he did have a warrant ~ but that was a lie. The evidence proves that Sheriff Couvillon didn't put out a warrant for my arrest until two days after I published this chapter. All of this is evidence that Sheriff Couvillon has abused the power of his office for the purpose of retaliation while on a personal vendetta. This wasn't his first time he's done that and I bet it won't be the last. All you Good Guys in Vermilion Parish need to watch your backs. Sincerely.

Sheriff Couvillon and His Values

The 2011 Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s election is right around the corner and this race will prove to be quite interesting if not down right entertaining. As it stands on this day in June, 2011, Sheriff Mike Couvillon promises to run for re-election and so far he has only one official competitor for the office.

Today, I’m not backing any of the candidates and you better believe that the last person who will get my vote of confidence is Sheriff Mike Couvillon. In this chapter I will set forth the facts that show a pattern of behavior that proves Couvillon is a master of deceit a bully of intimidation and a coward in the form of dereliction of duty.

My intention was to start with the small stuff and then ramp up to Couvillon’s more serious infractions but what I see as the most benign of his offense’s is considered among his constituents as his most atrocious act. During Couvillon’s last campaign for Sheriff he advertised his Family Values as though he had a sterling reputation for marital loyalty, but today, his extramarital activity is well known among his colleagues and community.

You see, four years ago, in 2007 during the last Sheriff election, Couvillon saturated his campaign message with the importance of Family Values inside the community. He flaunted his convictions to his own marriage while his VPSO deputies ran favors for his lady friend. Nobody was surprised when, after Mike Couvillon won that election, he divorced his wife of over 25 years and then married his lady friend from Maurice. He even gave her a badge and gun and a position in his Criminial Investigations unit. Today, his new wife is one of the highest paid employees in his office.

In my mind, one of Sheriff Mike Couvillon’s more serious crimes happened in 2009 when the Abbeville Chief of Police was Rick Coleman. During Chief Coleman’s tenure in office, one of his constituents, an Abbeville resident, came home to find his house had been burglarized. Several guns were missing, including an expensive Desert Eagle collector’s gun. The victim of the burglary went to the Abbeville Police Department and gave a report of the crime, complete with a description of the Desert Eagle.

Shortly afterward, Chief Coleman came to the victim and told him he could get his Desert Eagle returned to him but it would cost the victim $350. Straight up, Chief Rick Coleman was extorting one of his own citizens. That citizen went to Sheriff Couvillon and asked him to intervene. And then Couvillon had that desert eagle returned for free.

Good Ol’ Boy Couvillon, eh? When in fact, it was Couvillon’s professional duty to arrest Chief Coleman on the charge of extortion. In the least, Sheriff Couvillon had the legal responsibility to report Chief Coleman’s extortion to higher authorities. But Sheriff Couvillon did neither. He covered for Coleman and hid the act of extortion from the public by sweeping it all under the proverbial rug.

You understand, this happened in 2009 while Tony Hardy was challenging Chief Coleman in the Abbeville Police Chief election and Sheriff Couvillon simply loathes all of the Hardy Boys. Chief Rick Coleman was under Sheriff Couvillon's control, and the sheriff knows he could never control any of the Hardy Boys, so he covered up Coleman's act of extortion.

By covering up Chief Coleman's extortion, Sheriff Mike Couvillon was hoping Coleman would be re-elected as Police Chief and he'd be able to keep his puppet in Abbeville. But that's not what happened. It was I, myself, Dawn Marcelle, who publicly busted Couvillon AND Coleman wide open with their extortion and blew off their covers. The next thing ya know...a Hardy Boy takes office behind the Abbeville Chief of Police desk and Couvillon lost his puppet.

Someday I'll have to explain why Fred pretended, [perhaps he is still pretending] that he was the person who exposed Rick Coleman for extortion regarding that stolen gun. You are funny, Fred. Stop complaining about the "evil reign" of Chief Coleman. It was your King, Sheriff Couvillon, who let him remain in office for the last 18 months of his term. Take your complaints to Couvillon.

When Couvillon is not defending extortionists, he is ignoring evidence and leveraging the truth whenever he can gain an advantage. Back in August, 2010, when I knocked on Donnell Dent's door, Sheriff Couvillon had three days to arrest me while I was in town. Nope. Neither Couvillon or Chief Hardy believed Donnell Dent’s lies. However, in classic Sheriff Couvillon fashion, he gave orders to Deputy Sammy LaPorte to intimidate me with an email two months after I introduced myself to Donnell. Sammy wasn't investigating anything, his only motivation was to intimidate, harass or otherwise badger me.

Sadly, for the record, this was not Sheriff Couvillon’s first attempt to intimidate me. Due to the insistence of Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Abbeville Meridional newspaper published my name in the headline of a Sunday edition.

Allegations made by ‘Dawn Marcelle’ involve parish residents

Sunday, November 20, 2006

In that article, Sheriff Couvillon did everything he could to smear my name and destroy my credibility with suspicion. He even demanded that the Attorney General’s office conduct a thorough investigation of the claims made by “the person or persons” responsible for the Dawn Marcelle website. Sheriff Mike Couvillon promised way back in 2006 that he would get to the bottom of the Truth regarding the allegations made by me, Dawn Marcelle.

To this day, the VPSO has never stopped to amuse me with their arrogance and lack of integrity.

And now here we are.. five years later in 2011, and I have to ask….. what happened with Sheriff Mike Couvillon’s all important investigation against Dawn Marcelle?

Did Sheriff Mike Couvillon learn that everything stated on was True?

Is that why his investigation against me turned into a mere illusion never to be mentioned again? After all, the people implicated in those Racketeering indictments of 2006 were the biggest of the Rodi Power Scam Artists which included Couvillon’s old boss, Sheriff Raywood LeMaire.

Is the TRUTH too hot for Sheriff Couvillon to handle?

I should say so. Sheriff Couvillon will protect any goon in Vermilion when those goons are putting money in his campaign war chest. He’ll even protect the desperate Rodi lies from Donnell Dent and ignore that cocaine pipeline in Bedrock.

In my experience, those are the only virtues that have been upheld by Sheriff Mike Couvillon of the Vermilon Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Copied below, in full, is the front page Sunday edition of the Meridional. This article was contrived by Sheriff Mike Couvillon in effort to hide or scare away the truth told by me, Dawn Marcelle.

Sub-title: Allegations made by ‘Dawn Marcelle’ involve parish residents

From Staff Reporters

Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon plans to make a formal request to the Attorney General’s Office to investigate contents published on the “Dawn Marcelle” website.

Sheriff Couvillon said that he had contacted the Attorney General’s Office in regard to this particular website which has recently gained much attention in Vermilion Parish prior to Hurricane Rita.

Now that operations at the Sheriff’s Office have normalized, he plans to make it a formal request.

Couvillon said he has read parts of the website titled “Dawn Marcelle” and as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of Vermilion Parish, finds some parts quite disturbing.

“Specifically,” Sheriff Couvillon said, “the website contains the names of some well known Vermilion Parish residents and/or companies which either in the past or presently operate in this parish and more important, the website contains some very serious statements and/or allegations about them.”

The sheriff believes that whoever is responsible for authoring the contents on the website has made allegations which are serious enough to warrant an in-depth inquiry or investigation as to the validity of the statements and allegations.

Therefore, the Sheriff has spoken to Assistant Attorney General Burton Guidry and asked him to open up an investigation.

“If the allegations contained in the website are proven to be truthful, then those who have violated the law need to be held accountable by our judicial systems”, Couvillon said.

“And if the statements and the allegations are proven to be false, then those who have been falsely accused may seek civil intervention and or possibly the filing of any applicable criminal charges against the person or persons responsible.”

Additionally, Sheriff Couvillon said that this website has caused widespread gossip and rumors in Vermilion Parish.

He said it is time the allegations are investigated and either proven false or fictional with appropriate actions to follow, so that people can get on with their lives.

“In today’s world, you can be any one you want to be on the Internet and post information that is either factual or fiction.

“However, when statements and allegations as serious as those contained on the ‘Dawn Marcelle’ website are made, we should all have the peace of mind knowing that it would at least be looked into with appropriate action to follow depending upon the outcome of an inquiry or investigation,” said Sheriff Couvillon.

“Not long ago I attended a presentation where the commission for home rule charter provided information as to the progress of their task and made reference to the need for economic development here in Vermilion Parish and discussions about how much we have to offer here.

“A case in point for us all is the type of negative publicity Vermilion Parish is getting from this particular website which could ultimately hinder efforts to secure new business or industry here.

“All the more reason to investigate the allegations contained on this website and take whatever action is deemed appropriate and necessary, in the interest of doing the right thing for our people and our parish.”
